Courchevel facts

This page is for people who are new to the Courchevel area. Easily one of the best skiing resorts in the world.

"Les Trois Vallees" offer some of the best skiing you can get. There are plentiful runs, as it is the largest skiable area in the world with about 600 km or 1932 hectares of groomed pistes and 24,000 acres of off-piste skiing. The snow is more dependable than many resorts. The ski areas are linked by excellent lifts, and ski touring between the valleys is recommended.

However, each of the individual resorts offers so much skiing that many do not venture far away from their own village in their first week. Near the centre of 1650 the pistes are ideal for skiers of all levels, with more challenging runs higher up and between 1850 and 1650.

1650 is popular with the English and French, while 1850 is more international and is attracting a substantial number of visitors from the former Soviet Republic. 1550 is similar to 1650 - more reasonable prices than 1850 in shops and restaurants. 1300 has been built on the site of the original alpine village, Le Praz. The snow in 1300 is often very thin, espcially at the beginning and end of the skiing season.

Ski passes - recharge an old card on-line and save hassle - Click here. You can book a Courchevel valley only pass or a Trois Vallees pass, which includes the Meribel and Val Thorens valleys (and also the 'fourth' valley - Orelle).

Ski rental - there are several places to rent skis in 1650 but our favourite is the friendly, family run Francis Blanc Sports.

Look at our information file in the apartment for recommendations on restaurants etc.

For supplies in 1650, there are some excellent delicatessens and two good supermarkets, along with numerous restaurants.

There is much more information available about the resort and we would suggest you look at the commune's own web site - www.courchevel.com or the Ski club of Great Britain for more detailed descriptions of facilities.
