Calais to Courchevel is about 600 miles and Le Havre to Courchevel 500 miles (see www.mapblast.com for directions). It usually takes 7-8 hours from Calais, motorway all the way, but can be longer, depending on traffic.

You can even get 8 days skiing in by driving through the night: get up to Courchevel when the slopes open, ski all day & check in later in the day when the apartment becomes available; on the last day, pack your bags, check-out and go skiing for the day before departing for home.

You will need snow tyres or chains for resort-level driving. Going by motorway all the way, the tolls will come to around £80 return. Fuel is less expensive than in England.

Train:

The eurostar ski train goes directly from Waterloo to Moutiers. The night train leaves at 2000 and arrives at 0600; and the day train leaves at 0900 and arrives at 1700.

A taxi for 1 to 4 people is about €60. A bus is about €11. See www.transavoie-moutiers.com for bus information (or phone +33 (0)479242158 and +33 (0)479080117 - on weekends phone +33 (0)479242446).
